  • Open the box and take out the printer guides, installation CD, Instant Ink card, power cord and fax cord.
  • The installation CD can also be used to install the software drivers instead of downloading them from hp.com/ojpro8731. Subscribing to instant ink means getting cartridges delivered to your doorstep automatically when you’re out of ink.
  • Lay the box on the table and using the plastic cover, drag the printer out of the box.
  • Remove the Styrofoam caps on either sides and set aside the box and packaging materials for recycling.
  • Next, slide the plastic covering from the printer.
  • From the surface of the printer, remove all the blue tapes and transparent films covering the reflective surfaces.
  • Open the ink cartridge access area using the cutouts on the sides, and remove the packaging materials and tapes.
  • Lift the scanner glass lid and remove the Styrofoam sheet.

123 HP OfficeJet Pro 8731 Initialization

  • In order to be initialized, the printer should first be switched on.
  • To switch on the printer, connect one end of the power cord into the rear of the printer and the other end of the power cord into the wall outlet.
  • Switch on the printer and wait for it to fall silent after the initialization process done.
  • Once the noise stops, choose your language from the printer control panel by scrolling through the list displayed. Touch Confirm to move to the next step.
  • Next, scroll through the list of regions displayed to select where your printer is located. Again, press confirm to lock the selection
  • Set the date and then the time and then press Continue.

To install the ink cartridges, you can follow the animation on the screen or follow the steps given below.

  • Open the ink cartridge access area by using the cutouts on the sides.
  • Tear away the plastic covering on the cartridges.
  • Next, take the black cartridge and remove the plastic film on the cartridge by pulling the orange tab.
  • Now, twist the orange cap counter clockwise and push the cartridge down into the slot, according to the colour on the ink cartridge slot, until it snaps into place.
  • Similarly, insert the other cartridges into place.

The printer will then ask you to load unused papers into the Paper Tray. After loading paper, you can download and install the software drivers from 123.hp.com/ojpro8731.

  • Slide out the Paper Input Tray and lift the Paper Output Tray.
  • Slide the paper width guides away from each other.
  • Align a stack of sheets and insert them into the Paper Tray.

  • Tap OK on the control panel when your printer asks if you’ve loaded the paper.
  • Wait until the printer prints out an alignment sheet.
  • Once the alignment sheet is printed, it needs to be scanned so that the printer alignment is complete.
  • Open the scanner glass lid and place the alignment paper on the scanner glass using the markings on the sides as guides.
  • Close the scanner glass lid and tap Scan to scan the alignment page.

  • Switch on the printer and swipe down the control panel to open the dashboard.
  • Tap the Wireless icon.
  • Tap Wireless settings and then Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • The printer scans the surroundings for available wireless networks and displays a list on the control panel.

  • The printer now attempts to connect to the network.

To print documents using AirPrint follow the steps given below:

  • Check if the printer and computer are connected to the same wireless network.
  • Make sure that the Wireless light on the printer is steady and not blinking.
  • On your Ios device, open the document that you wish to print and tap the share icon.

  • Select your printer from the list of printers displayed in the Printer Options menu.
