1. Unboxing the printer
It is important to check the contents of the box before unpacking the printer as the contents in the box may vary by country and region. You have to check whether the packaging list matches the items shipped along with the printer. If all the accessories are present in the box, you can move to the next step. Otherwise, contact the HP customer to resolve the issue or the dealer from where you bought the product.
Remove the stickers, tapes and all unnecessary items from the printer. You should also check inside the printer as there will be cardboards and other packing materials which will derail the printer operation if not removed.
Remove the tape and cardboard from the outside of the printer. After removing the packing materials, send it to the recycling process.
2. Power cord connections
You have to setup the connections in a proper and safer manner. The power cord connections are important for the printer to work. Connect the power to the rear of the printer. The power supply can be connected using the power cord. After that power outlet in the wall is connected by plugging in the power cord.
After setting up the connections, check to confirm that the power cord connections are made properly. Switch on the printer by pressing the power button. If the printer turn on, the power cord connection are made properly. Otherwise check your power cord connections.
3. Loading the paper tray
To load the paper tray, you have to turn on the power and follow the instructions to insert the papers properly. Make sure that you use A4 sheets to insert.
Lower the output tray to pull the tray extender. Slide the paper width guide to the right until it stops at the edge of the paper but does not bend the paper. Now you can load a stack of A4 sheets into the paper tray and start printing.
4. Cartridge installation
Before installing the printer, you have to turn off the printer. Open the cartridge access door. Make the carriage to move to the centre of the product. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent to move on to the next step.
You have to remove the ink cartridge from its package.
The plastic tape should be removed carefully by pulling the pink tap. The copper-coloured contacts or ink nozzles should not be touched. Do not re-tape the cartridges.
These actions may lead to ink failure, clogs and bad electrical connections.
You can now insert the ink cartridge in its slot after checking that the cartridge match the icon on the slot. You have to insert the black cartridge on the right and the tri-color cartridge on the left slot.
Push the cartridge forward into its slot until it snaps into place. If you are inserting other cartridge, repeat the same steps. You have to close the cartridge access door.
5. Cartridge alignment
Follow the below instructions to align the cartridges. The instructions varies for different operating system. Select the correct operating system and continue with the procedure. Open the printer software initially.
If you are using the Windows 8 operating system, follow the below procedure.
In the lower left corner of the screen, right-click on the Start button and you will notice an option Search. Click on the Search and type HP in the search box.
Open the printer software by clicking on the printer. Open the printer software from your desktop by double clicking the icon for your printer.

If you are using the Windows 7 operating system or Window Vista, follow the below given procedure.
Click All Programs and click HP. Open the printer folder and click the printer icon. You will notice the printer software opening on your screen.
If you are using Windows XP , follow the below instructions to align the cartridges.
Click Start to open the programs. Click All programs and click HP. You have to click on the printer folder and click the printer icon that appears on your desktop.
Open the printer software and double click Printer Actionsàmaintenance Tasks to open the HP Toolbox.
Click the Device ServicesàAlign Ink Cartridges to align the printer cartridges and the printer will print an alignment page
