HP Printer Driver Setup using the HP Printer Assistant

Using the HP printer assistant in your Windows operating system, you can download the printer driver. You can also perform many printer related tasks such as  scanning, ordering supplies, checking ink levels and more. The HP Printer Assistant comes with the printers that are manufactured after 2009.

Upgrade to a new version of Windows to open the Printer Setup & Software window. The printer icon is missing from Devices and Printers folder. The issue might occur even through your printer was setup and installed before the Windows upgrade. You should setup the printer connection again to resolve the issue.

  1. Printer reconnection

Regain access to Printer Assistant tools by connecting the printer again.

Click Connect a new Printer and select the connection type to continue. Then follow the instructions that appear on the screen. If you see a red X displaying, click Retry as the red X mentions the connection failure. Move on to the next.

Turn off the printer by pressing the power button. You have to shut down the computer and restart it. Open the HP Printer Assistant. The issue is resolved if you can open Printer Assistant. If you cannot open the printer assistant, continue to the next step as the connection fails.

  1. Uninstalling HP driver

Uninstall the HP printer and reinstall the latest driver if the issue still exists.

Disconnect the USB cable from the printer if you have connected to the computer with USB cable. Search for the Program and features in Windows and click Program and Features in the search results. You can uninstall the driver by clicking Uninstall or Yes after clicking your HP printer name in the list of installed programs.

Complete the software removal by following the onscreen instructions and restart the computer.

  1. Reinstalling the latest driver

Download the most current version of the printer after uninstalling the software driver from support.hp.com or 123.hp.com. Another alternative method to install the driver is by using the installation CD drive that comes along with  the printer.

Disconnect the USB cable and turn on the printer.  Enter the URL in your web browser https://support.hp.com/drivers to download the current version of the printer driver. You will be directed to the HP support page. To find your printer, type the model number in search box and click the search button. You will be navigated to the product home page. Click the software and driver tab. Then click the Go button. Download the basic driver by clicking the Download option.

Follow the instructions that appear on the screen and complete the installation successfully.

  1. Restart

You have to restart you computer as well as your printer to complete the setup after reinstalling drivers. Turn off the printer and restart it . shut down your computer after closing all the running programs. Switch on the printer and open the HP printer assistant.

  1. Window built-in driver

Install the built-in driver if a full feature driver from HP is not available. The driver for some Windows version are not available in the HP website and also the CD that comes with the printer

As the HP print driver is built into the Windows operating system or installed through the Windows Update feature, you need not download anything. You have to install the Add a Printer wizard to install the built-in print driver.
